HOUSTON, TX, November 07, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Attorney Benny Agosto, Jr., a partner at Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend in Houston, Texas, has been named a co-editor of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) Journal of Law and Policy. He shares the editor's chair with The Hon. Lupe S. Salinas (Ret.), a former Texas state court judge and professor at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston.
The HNBA's Journal of Law and Policy is an annual publication that provides a forum to examine and discuss legal and law-related policy issues that pertain to the Hispanic legal profession and that impact the Hispanic community in the United States.
"I look forward to working with Lupe to continue to highlight Hispanic legal issues," said Mr. Agosto, who was installed as president of the HNBA on September 3, 2011. He is the first Texas attorney to hold this leadership position and has been involved in the HBNA for many years.
The HNBA works to promote the retention and recruitment of Hispanic law students, holds workshops and conferences, testifies at governmental hearings, and educates the Hispanic community about the American legal system. Benny Agosto, Jr., is the 38th president of the organization since its founding in 1972.
Benny co-founded the HNBA's Legal Education Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization that provides scholarships to minority law students. His involvement in this work is testimony to the influence of his immigrant parents, who left school after sixth grade and always emphasized the importance of education.
An attorney since 1995, Benny is a former Division I soccer player and high school and college teacher who believes that one should never stop learning. Although he loved teaching, he wanted more; this brought him to the South Texas College of Law. He is now certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, an achievement that reflects his emphasis on lifelong study.
With the other partners of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend, Benny advocates for the rights of catastrophically injured clients in personal injury matters involving motor vehicle accidents, on-the-job injuries, defective product injuries and in other types of personal injury cases.
